Equipment
Ingredients
- 2 cups Kewpie mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup toasted sesame seeds
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 4 tsp sesame oil
- 3 Tbsp tahini (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium mixing bowl, add the Kewpie mayonnaise, toasted sesame seeds, soy sauce, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, sesame oil, and tahini (if using).
- Whisk (or use a fork) until all ingredients are combined and the sauce is smooth.
- Let sit 10–15 minutes before serving so the flavors develop.
Notes
- Kewpie mayonnaise: Regular mayo works, but some flavor is lost.
- Tahini: Optional, but recommended for a stronger sesame flavor.
- Maple syrup: Sugar or honey can be substituted.
- Apple cider vinegar: Rice vinegar or white wine vinegar can be substituted.
- Toasted sesame seeds: Available at most grocery stores, or toast your own in a dry skillet in a few minutes.
- Use as a marinade: Works well with chicken, pork, or salmon. Coat the meat and refrigerate 30 minutes to 1 hour, then grill or bake until fully cooked. Discard any sauce that touched raw meat.
- Other uses: Dipping sauce, or drizzle on salads, noodles, and rice bowls.
- Storage: Airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Shake or stir before serving.
